I hadn’t heard when I posted this, but Mitchell & Webb have made a pilot episode for a radio version of Daydream Believers, which was broadcast 5 May 2007 on BBC Radio 2. Perhaps a radio series will follow eventually?
Wealthy and powerful Thakur Digvijay Singh (Raj Babbar) sets his eye on a beautiful gypsy girl Naina (Twinkle Khanna) and wants to make her his own at any cost. He asks his employee, Balwant (Amrish Puri) to make his son Karan (Ajay Devgan), escort Naina to Thakur’s place in the city. On the route to the city, Karan and Naina fall in love with each other. But what they don’t known is that Thakur takes the village girls to the city and ruins them, forcing them into prostitution. When Thakur finds out about Karan and Naina, he sends his men on a hunt to kill Karan and bring Naina to him. Krana is brutalized by Thakur’s men and the police after a bounty is placed on his head. In the year 1971 the Indian army has been sent to a deserted place in Longewala region of Punjab to war with the Pakistani Army. Under the command of Major Kuldeep Singh (Sunny Deol), 120 Indian soldiers patrol the desert to keep a check on the Pakistani army. But the Pakistani battalion is over 2000 soldiers strong, consisting of war tanks and all the ammunition needed to crush the Indian army. Now, 120 soldiers have to hold an entire night against 2000 Pakistani soldiers till help arrives in the morning. The Higher command orders Major Kuldeep Singh to retreat as it was impossible to fight. Major Kuldeep Singh and his battalion refuse to fall back and stand their ground to fight hordes of enemies till death. The film is based on a real life incident and focuses on a group of slum dwellers who are ignored by the city developers and how the raise their voice against the ignorance of their slum. The story revolves around Chakrapani, a disabled beggar, a drunkard and has an eye on Latha, who lives nearby and works as a maid and dreams better future for his children. Latha detests Chakrapani, but she joins hands with him and protests against the city developers to save their slum. But their protest goes to vain as their pleas fall on deaf ears and government decides to remove the slum and the slum dwellers have nowhere to go. Video Rating: 5 / 5
